Important notes:
Watt-Hours (Wh) can be calculated by multiplying the voltage (V) by the Ampere-hour (Ah). E.g. 12V x 5Ah = 60WH [V x mAh / 1000].
A request for authorization with the battery description must be sent to the airline at least 72 hours before departure:
The following information is required:
a) Type of battery (e.g.: metal, alloy, ion, poly, etc…);
b) Lithium weight (e.g. 2g);
c) Watt-hours (Wh);
d) Number of replacement batteries;
e) Equipment description;
f) Type of container/packaging
You may send us a picture of the batteries with a visible and readable description label.
Powder substances with a weight equal to or greater than 350 grams may not be carried in the aircraft cabin. This prohibition does not apply to articles with a medical prescription, powdered milk formula, human ashes or containers with powdered products acquired in the Duty-Free area when carried in duly sealed Secure Tamper-Evident Bag.
Flights to the United States of America may be subject to additional screening of carry-on luggage and a detailed footwear inspection of all electrical and electronic devices transported. Please note that it is completely forbidden to carry lighters into the United States, either in carry-on luggage or checked luggage.
15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program
Apple has identified a battery fault in a number of older generation MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch) models; which may pose an overheating/fire risk. As a result, they are recalling affected devices to allow for a battery replacement.
The affected devices were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and are linked only to certain serial numbers. To ascertain whether a device is impacted the following link should be used: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall.
If confirmed as an affected device, Apple has stated it should not be used and that owners should contact them for a free battery replacement.
Given that passengers´ safety is our top priority, affected devices should not be checked in to hold luggage, plugged in or used on board our aircraft.
(1)Liquids as carry-on baggage(*) are accepted in individual containers with a capacity not greater than 100 millilitres or equivalent (100g/3 oz). The total capacity must not exceed one litre, i.e 10 x 100ml or equivalent, per passenger. The containers must be placed in a resealable transparent plastic bag measuring 19 x 20 centimetres. The items must fit in the bag, allowing visualization and identification of their content.
The following are meant to be understood as liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs):
- Paste
- Lotions
- Liquids / solid mixtures
- Contents of pressurized containers
Examples: toothpaste, hair gel, water and other drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, shaving foam, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and other items of similar consistency.
Exceptions:
- Liquids required for consumption during flights and stay at the destination, intended for medical purposes and with a medical prescription and proof of authenticity;
- Liquids required during the entire journey, intended to meet special dietary needs subject to a medical certificate
- Baby food
When requested, the passenger must provide or prove the authenticity of the liquid by gustatory or epidermal evidence.
(*)Liquids purchased at duty-free:
European Union Regulation (EU) No. 246/2013 of 19 March 2013, in effect from 31 January 2014, informs that liquids purchased at Duty-Free shops in any airport, or air carrier, may be carried as hand luggage when accessing or travelling through European airspace.
- They must be sealed in their own sealed purchase bags, displaying the inside of the bag as proof of purchase.
- These safety bags cannot be opened prior to arrival at the destination unless requested by a security officer for verification.
- In the case of connecting flight, the security officer must be alerted so that liquids purchased in duty-free be sealed again in a new bag.
Download the leaflet about how to prepare liquids for security control and hand it over to your customers.
Medication Restrictions:
There are some transport restrictions only for liquid medicines, or of similar consistency. Passengers should have with them a medical prescription or certificate/statement, preferably in English, confirming their need.
Given that many of the passengers have chronic illnesses, or need to take medicine for long periods of time, the certificate may have a validity term, or in its absence, it will be valid for a period of two years from the date of emission.
Solid medicines, such as tablets and pills, have no restrictions nor require any medical prescription or proof.
Injectable drugs - transport of insulin, needles, syringes, and injection pens:
No special declaration is required for this purpose. However, the passenger is advised to provide accompanying documents, such as a medical statement or any other appropriate document, stating the need for the medicine during the journey, in order to facilitate and make the security check quicker.
You should inform TAP that the passenger carries these medications, so that information is included in the booking for the check-in (e.g. if the passenger is travelling with injectable medicines for diabetes). Syringes will have to be delivered to the crew when boarding, being returned when disembarking.
