Meal Service: On Board Retail in Economy Class of Medium haul flights
Last updated on: 08 Jun 2020

TAP will start, on the 8th of June the concept of On Board Retail in Economy Class of several medium-haul destinations, across the entire Airbus and Embraer fleet.

This concept, which is based on the purchase on board of Food & Drinks, is in line with the main trends of the industry and with what many European flag carriers already offer today, in their medium-haul flights (eg Brussels Airlines, Iberia, Swiss and British Airways, Air Lingus, SAS).

The main attributes of On Board Retail are:

• Flexibility

• Choice - Customers choose what they want to eat and pay for

• Variety of products

• Sustainability - drastically reduces food waste and consequently costs

Why is TAP going to implement On Board Retail on its medium-haul flights?

As it is a good industry practice, the health and economic context of COVID-19 - of mitigating contacts, alongside the Company's recovery challenges - made evident the need for the gradual introduction on board TAP planes of the On Board Retail concept.

When will this concept be introduced on board?

It is scheduled to start on the 8th of June.

Which flights are covered by this new service?

Medium-haul flights to: Madeira, Azores, Spain (except SVQ and MAD), Morocco, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland and Cape Verde.

Flights operated on ATR aircrafts are excluded.

Will On Board Retail be only for meals and snacks or does it also apply to the beverage service?

This concept applies to both snacks and drinks. In this transitional phase tea, coffee, as well as water by the glass (all on request) will be offered to the entire economy class cabin, but the remaining drinks (e.g. juices, soft drinks, individual water bottle) will be available for purchase.

Will On Board Retail products be Portuguese?

Our priority is to deliver safe products at this stage, and whenever possible we will provide for the inclusion of Portuguese products.

What are the payment methods foreseen in the On Board Retail service?

It will only be possible to pay by debit and / or credit card.

And how is the service for all Customers who have already purchased tickets entitled to a meal?

Customers will be contacted, before their journey, via SMS / Email with all information related to the service on board.
