From 2 January 2025, an environmental surcharge (YQ) related to the use of SAF, sustainable aviation fuel, will apply to departures from Europe on TAP Air Portugal flights.
This surcharge covers part of the increasingly high costs incurred in complying with the ‘ReFuelEU Aviation’ Regulation, which requires that fuels supplied from 2025 onwards at European airports include SAF. It will be applied by flight segment according to destination and class of service.
SAF, a sustainable aviation fuel, can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80 per cent over the life cycle of the fuel, compared to conventional aviation fuel (paraffin, of fossil origin).
