USA - new CDC rules for travelling with dogs to the USA
Updated on 02 Aug 2024

Starting from August 1, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has established new transport rules for dogs in the United States of America due to the risk of rabies transmission.

These regulations apply to all pet dogs (transported in the cabin and hold) as well as assistance dogs. The dogs must:

  • Be over 6 months old
  • Have a microchip
  • Submit the CDC dog import form - Animal Importation Form
    • Instructions for filling in the form can be found HERE.

Dogs with rabies vaccinations administered outside the United States and coming from high-risk countries, whose list can be checked here (High-Risk Countries for Dog Rabies | Importation | CDC), should only enter the USA through airports approved by the CDC, detailed HERE.

Please note:

Passengers should validate their documentation at the check-in desk as early as possible on the day of travel. Check the check-in opening times HERE.
