Name Correction & Commercial Authorisation Policy

Always check the client ID document to avoid name corrections later on.

Never make Name Changes or Corrections on Bookings or Tickets with Interline involved.

If there are Code Share flights involved, please get in touch with the Agencies Helpdesk in advance.

Name Field

All reservations made on TAP AIR PORTUGAL flights should include in the passenger name field the last family name and first name, followed by the Title (ex: MRS, MR, MISS, MSTR) and Passenger Type Code (ex: ADT, CHD, INF, etc.).

Always check a customer ID document to avoid name corrections later on.

* Although TAP does not require more than first name and last name, some companies may also require the full name in the name field.

In the case of passengers with long names, please note that reservations allow 57 characters to be entered.

However, when the ticket is issued, only 28 letters appear, with the surname having a maximum of 16 characters

We recommend that names are entered as in the example below:

Passenger - RITA ISABEL CAMPOS FERREIRA NUNES

First Name = Rita Isabel
Surname = Campos Ferreira Nunes
Name in the reservation must be = 1NUNES/RITAMRS(ADT).

Note: Example valid for Amadeus GDS. If you do not use Amadeus, please consult your GDS helpdesk or manual.

 IMPORTANT NOTE

It is essential to create the booking with the passenger's first and last name on the identification document.

  • If the client has a different surname on their TAP Miles&Go account, they must update their account to their first and last name as shown on their identification document.
  • Failure to match the name on the booking with the name on the TAP Miles&Go account will result in loss of benefits.
  • The use of TAP Miles&Go status and card benefits is personal and non-transferable.

 

Markets with Specific Rules:

BRAZIL

Passenger with full name JOSE MANUEL SARMENTO SILVA JUNIOR
(name with more than 28 letters, so the reservation should be made only as suggested above).

Since JUNIOR is an agname, the reservation should be made as 1SILVAJUNIOR/JOSE MR(ADT).

SPAIN

Passenger with full name MARIA DEL AMPARO SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ
(name with more than 28 letters, so the reservation must be made with the passenger's First Surname which is always the Father's family name and first name - 1SANCHEZ/MARIADELAMPAROMRS(ADT).

FRANCE

If in doubt with French identification documents where the Passenger's surname appears in the "NOM" field and sometimes it can also appear as "ÉPOUSE / EP" or "NOM D'USAGE". 

Always use the family name as it appears on the magnetic strip on the identification document. In the case of "CARTE D'IDENTITÉ", which has no magnetic strip, use only the information in the field of NOM and PRENOM.

 

How to book a passenger with a one-letter surname

Double the surname with a single letter or combine the surname with a single letter with the first names.

Ex: MISS MOAN Y

⇒ book as YY / MOAN MISS or YMOAN / MISS

When there is more than one passenger with the same one-letter surname, they must be booked in individual name fields.

Ex: John and Sally U

⇒ book 1 UJOHN / MR and 1 USALLY / MRS

Name Correction Policy

According to the TAP AIR PORTUGAL General Transportation Conditions (Article 3 - Point 3.1.2), tickets are non-transferable, so passengers' name changes are not allowed.

Technically, the Amadeus Reservations system allows the entire first name to be changed and up to 3 characters of the surname to be changed once, however, TAP AIR PORTUGAL only allows corrections in the situations below:

  • 047 tickets and only on TAP-operated flights (TP/WI/NI):
  • In the same flights/dates as the original booking.
  • If there is a change of date or booking class when the ticket is reissued due to name correction, the applicable fare difference must be charged, as well as the penalty for date change (according to the fare notes). Failure to charge these amounts will result in an ADM being issued.
  • Group PNRs and Allots - Standard Groups and Allots are not subject to a name correction fee.

Except in the cases indicated in the table below, it is not permitted to make name corrections directly in the GDS. A prior request for authorization must be made to the Agency Helpdesk using the keyword "PNR" in the subject line of the email.

Award Tickets

In the case of Award Tickets with Interline involved a new booking should be created and never make a name change in an existing booking. 

 

Attention

If the PNR contains SSR DOCS, you must re-enter that information after the name correction has been made.

If there is a Frequent Flyer Number (FQTV) entered in the PNR, you must contact the Help Desk in advance to remove it (valid for 1G agents).        

 

Ticket Reissue due to Name Correction
  • Tickets 047 and only  TP/WI/NI operated flights:
  • Same flights / dates as original booking.
  • If there is a change of date or booking class when the ticket is reissued due to name correction, the applicable fare difference must be charged, as well as the penalty for date change (according to the fare notes). Failure to charge these amounts will result in an ADM being issued.
  • The endorsement box should read - Reissue due Corr Name.

Attention

If the PNR contains SSR DOCS, you must re-enter that information after the name correction has been made.

If there is a Frequent Flyer Number (FQTV) entered in the PNR, you must contact the Help Desk in advance to remove it (valid for 1G agents).
